What is a Rain Shut-Off Device?

Also known as a rain sensor, this small device does exactly what you might assume it does from its name.

A rain shut-off is a device that communicates with your sprinkler timer about the level of rainfall. If enough rain has fallen, then the sensors let the timer know to skip the next cycle and not run. This saves you from having to remember to turn your system off when it is rainy and then remembering to turn it back on when the sunshine returns. It is a wonderfully convenient piece of technology.

Benefits of a rain shut-off
  • Saving money
Whether you pay for city water or spend electricity running a pump, the money you save over time will more than pay for the rain sensor. We have found in typical Siouxland weather, a properly installed rain shut-off will pay for itself in about 3 summers.
  • Conserving water
Less water waste! When less supplemental water is needed to hydrate your lawn or garden you are not only saving money, you are saving one of our most precious resources.
  • Creating a healthier lawn
Turfgrass that is overwatered is far less healthy in the long run. If the skies are dumping water on the lawn and you are as well, you are creating a babied, surface rooted lawn that is more prone to disease and distress.
